THIS IS MY STORY
Hi, I’m May (pronounced 'Mah-ee,' not like the month). Short for Mayara.

I’m an enthusiastic Brazilian media professional - now based in San Diego, CA - with a strong background in journalism, content creation, sports reporting and a very special focus on Jiu-Jitsu. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Radio, TV & Internet from the Methodist University of São Paulo (Brazil), which laid the foundation for my multifaceted career.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with esteemed organizations such as ESPN Brazil, UFC, and ADCC, where I’ve honed my skills in storytelling, media strategy, and athlete-focused content. I’m also the creator of Jiu-Jitsu in Frames, a platform dedicated to producing original content for the Jiu-Jitsu community, including interviews, podcasts, and educational materials.
My work is deeply influenced by my personal journey in Jiu-Jitsu. I won my first championship in 2007 as a white belt at the age of 14, and I’ve been training, improving and competing ever since. Although I don't consider myself primarily an athlete, it's hard to deny that this path has shaped who I am.
Throughout my journey, I'd highlight two special moments that happened recently: reaching the 2024 IBJJF World Championship Finals in the absolute division as a brown belt and being (finally) promoted to black belt at Atos Jiu-Jitsu, under Professor André Galvão.

Reflecting on my journey, I feel immense gratitude for the lessons learned, both on and off the mat. This unique blend of professional expertise and firsthand athletic experience allows me to craft meaningful, authentic stories that resonate with the sports community. Whether behind the camera or on the mat, my passion lies in connecting people through compelling narratives and empowering athletes to showcase their best selves.
